The future of telehealth in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic will be determined by policies and resourcing. A Flinders University-led study surveyed health professionals to discover their experiences with telehealth in COVID-19. Telehealth, which allows clinicians and doctors to interact with patients via telephone or via the internet, was encouraged in Australia at the beginning of the pandemic. This was done to reduce the chance of transmission of communicable disease. This is especially beneficial to remote and rural areas without having access to medical services.

Flinders University researchers Professor Paul Ward and Professor Hailay abrha Geosesew, Professor Anthony Maeder and Professor Hailay abrha Gesesew conducted a survey of 91 health professionals on their experiences with the use of telehealth in pandemic. According to the experts, the positives include the legalization of telehealth as a mode of delivery, increased confidence in its provision as well as improved human and financial capabilities.

"While many clinicians believe that the switch to Telehealth was prompted by the Pandemic," Dr Alan Taylor of Flinders University. He is an active member and principal author of the Australian Telehealth Society Committee.

Dr. Taylor stated that it was difficult to determine whether telehealth services would continue following the pandemic. The funding for health services via telehealth is also a concern due to the complex mixture of policies and clinical procedures. Dr. Alan Taylor also managed a project to create an international standard for the provision of telehealth services. Dr Taylor stated that international standards are an important part of world trade in goods, services, and with the increasing use of telehealth services, it is crucial to maintain the quality of telehealth services subject to ISO/TR 11633-2:2021 Health informatics-Information security management for remote maintenance of medical devices and medical information systems. These guidelines will be extremely helpful to healthcare providers, including primary care physicians who want to utilize risk management in order to set quality targets and create guidelines for operating the telehealth service.
